Former Newcastle boss Alan Shearer has dismissed rumours he is set to become the new Sheffield Wednesday manager.
Newspaper reports had suggested Shearer, 39, could take the vacant job at Hillsborough with former team-mate Gary Speed acting as his assistant.
But Shearer, who was Newcastle boss for eight games last season, told BBC Sport there was "no truth" in the story.
Wednesday are currently led by caretaker-manager Sean McAuley and sit second bottom of the Championship.
Youth team coach McAuley was installed as the interim manager after Brian Laws left the club on 13 December following a 3-0 defeat to Leicester.
Former Wednesday player and Northern Ireland manager Nigel Worthington has been among the front-runners for the vacant post and declared his interest before the Christmas period.
But since then the Irish Football Association has said they are confident he will sign a new deal with them.
Other names linked with the Wednesday job are former Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson and ex-Burnley boss Steve Cotterill.
In the summer, Shearer - who is currently a pundit on Match of the Day - said he wanted to return as Newcastle manager despite being unable to save them from Premier League relegation.
But Chris Hughton was given the job at St James' Park on a permanent basis in October and the Magpies are six points clear at the top of the Championship.
